1What size tarp do I need for my tent?
Your tarp should be at least as wide and long as your tent's footprint, ideally 1-2 feet larger on each side for better protection. Check your tent dimensions first, then choose a tarp that covers those measurements plus overhang—undersized tarps leave your gear exposed to rain.
2What material difference does it make between polyester, canvas, and nylon tarps?
Polyester is lightweight and affordable but degrades faster in UV exposure; canvas is heavier and more durable but takes longer to dry; nylon balances durability with weight and dries quickly. For frequent camping, nylon or polyester with UV coating offers the best value.
3How do I know if a tarp has decent water resistance?
Look for the denier rating (higher is more durable) and water resistance measured in mm—anything above 1500mm handles heavy rain, while 1000mm suits light use. Check if the tarp is silicone or PU-coated, as these treatments improve waterproofing without adding much weight.
